This project seems to duplicate the mandate of WikiBooks. Although, given my personal experience with WikiBooks, they have a very ridged view of what's allowed and what is not. What was the reason for creating this versus WikiBooks? -- 220.127.116.11 11:39, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
- Whereas WikiBooks is for free full text "books", WikiSummaries provides summaries of popular and classic books (and documents, etc.). --Admin 13:16, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
I agree that WikiBooks and WikiSummaries are different projects. I wanted to point out that the current text on WikiSummaries' pages would be more appropriately called "WikiReviews" as the sentences are in the users' words and not the book authors'. Hence, if one wants, one could summarize book in one's words, but for a book's "Summary" it should be mainly taken in Author's words by quoting sentences leading to a book's summary / collection of main thoughts and quotes providing a good overview of what is in the book and the style of language used. If collected appropriately, they won't appear odd without context. This should not have any copyright issues either if we have a word limit / % text quotes used limit. BTW, though Summary.com folks write a review, they call it executive summary. If our Wiki-folks agree, please define the project and guidelines accordingly so documents would be more appropriate reflections. Regards, -18.104.22.168 at 08.20 May 24, 2008 (PDT)
- Hi ... I have to agree with the comment above. The small number of entries I've sampled are more like reviews or "book reports" than a summary.
- I also reckon that some kind of style sheet is needed. For example an Executive Summary at the top would be a good idea (before the table of contents).

Would have to disagree with the above. A review is a critical, opinion-based piece. Summaries, at least in my vocabulary, confers exactly what is located here.--Cyclopse 15:02, 19 February 2009 (PST)
This is a great wiki with a great idea, I love it!
Summary of foreign books
Hi! I'm new in this wiki and I wonder: Is WikiSummaries dedicated only to English literature, or is it also about other literatures? For I would be able to contribute also for other literatures...--Galaxia 08:30, 10 December 2008 (PST)
Hey, I'm currently learning how to develop for iPhone applications, and I think a great project would be to make a book summaries app. Would any members of the community have any objections to using content from this website in the application? The app will be free.
Just wanted to see if people would be happy with this. As I understand it, the GNU license allows reuse of the content for non-commercial purposes, right?
Thanks, Sam Whitehall
How do I create a new summary?
I've just joined the community. And I can't for the life of me see where I go to create a new article.
-- Hi Chris
Just search the title you want to add, it will say you searched for (your title). Click on the title and you will be able to start that page! --Alex 11:59, 3 November 2010 (PDT)
